Can't-Help-You Desk

Okay, you hear about all those crazy kinds of help desk, technical supports calls. You know the ones like "hey, my screen is blank" and it turns out the guy didn't turn on his computer monitor. Or the one that goes, "the cup holder on my computer broke" where the gal mistakes the disk drawer as a joe-holder. You almost think they're urban legend, right?
Wrong. I got a call today from a guy in Puerto Rico, complaining about not being able to access the software I support. I think, and I say think because English was not his first language, that he said the power was out in his building. I confirmed, "the power is out?" He agreed. All I could say was, "the only thing I can suggest is that you call back after the power comes back on." Okay? Whew.
